Taragui Sin Palo Review (Does It Taste Good?)
Taragui is a popular brand.

But most only know of their regular mate.

You know the big red bag with the classic Argentinian cut of leaves stems and dust.


However because of this one of their best mates hasn’t been given the recognition it deserves.

This mate is Taragui Sin Palo (without stem).


A package that consists of “Pure Leaf” (which you’ll see isn’t entirely true in a minute).


Taragui Sin Palo is something I’ve been drinking for a while but have never gotten the chance to write a review for. Which I hate because I’m confident people would like this more compared to the original.

I’ve tried Taragui Con Palo a long time ago. And it has always been on my top list of Most Hated Yerba Mates.

But that’s not the case with Taragui Sin Palo…


Taste

Taragui Sin Palo is the first sin palo brand I tried.

Because I hated Taragui Con Palo so much I wanted to know if this version would make a difference.

And it sure did.


To the nose this pack of mate emits aromas of sweet dried fruits and tobacco. Very pleasant.

But how did it taste?


Taragui Sin Palo boasts a uniquely rich smooth flavor you won’t find in regular con palo mates (especially not in their own).

Still holding the smoky earthy goodness us materos have come to love but with a velvety creamy texture this pack of yerba is sure to have you let out a big “Ahhhh” in relief and content. While leaving you in contemplation of its sweetness on the aftertaste.


If you’re new to yerba mate Taragui Sin Palo will be a great introduction as it’s similar to other loose-leaf green black and white teas.

The flavors are a bit strong to start but not too bold and in-your-face.

After the first 2-3 gourdfuls the strength simmers down to its sweet spot. Where everything about this yerba is mellow. It’s flavor texture body everything…


Cut

It’s strange to think by simply making a pure leaf blend the flavor profile changes completely.

At least that’s what you’d think.

This package consists of fine light and dark green leaves with absolutely no stems in sight but there’s still dust in there.

Obviously not as much as in a regular pack of yerba but enough to see it float in the air when you pour some into your gourd.

Now when it comes to sin palo brands there’s usually a discussion about how to prepare it.

But it’s actually no different…


Easy To Prepare

With Taragui Sin Palo you’d prepare it the same way you would any mate – the traditional way.

I’ve heard people complain that it’s harder to prepare sin palo yerba with a gourd and bombilla but I’ve never had a problem with this.

I’m not exactly sure why others do.

The only problem you might have is maintaining the mountain of yerba because the mate is mostly leaves it’s easy to slide everywhere. There’s not enough dust to hold it together.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t prepare it. You’ll just have to be a little more cautious.


As far as filtering goes you should never have a problem.

In fact it filters better than regular mate.

Since there’s so little dust it rarely goes through the straw and into your mouth making Taragui Sin Palo all the better.

If you happen to have problems preparing it the traditional way however you do have another option.

An easier one.

And that’s using a french press.


Cycle

As with any mate a long cycle is always appreciated.

After all who would ever want it to last a short time?

Good news is Taragui Sin Palo lasts an average amount of time.

Not short not long but right in the middle.

With the gourd pictured I can drink a little more than half a liter before it becomes lavado (washed out).

And that’s a good enough time for me to not only enjoy its taste but also its effects.


Effect

When it comes to effects Taragui Sin Palo is rather modest.

Yes you still get a caffeine boost and better focus which istypical of yerba mate.

But I receive it differently.

Of all the things mate can do this one in particular relaxes me.

I can’t tell you why but it does.

Usually I’d drink yerba mate to get me up and going like most people do. But not with Taragui Sin Palo.

When I drink this mate it’s usually with the intent to calm down sit back and enjoy (not to get an energy kick or be productive) and it gets the job done.


Compared to the regular Taragui and other yerba mates this brings a new dimension to the picture you won’t regret trying.

Taragui Sin Palo’s pure-leaf blend provides a pure yerba mate – one with a smooth soothing flavor and feel.

Although this pack doesn’t have much variety in regards to taste it’s one you can enjoy time and time again. It’s also a good change up from all the other mates.

Slight smoke strong earthiness mixed in with a bit of sweetness and you have Taragui Sin Palo. Add to that a medium lasting mate with relaxing effects and it’s a must-try.
